William Wilson in the Community

Energy Action Scotland (EAS) campaigns for an end to fuel poverty in Scotland and is the only national charity with this sole remit.

EAS aims to develop and promote effective solutions to the problem of cold, damp and expensive to heat homes.

Winter 2021 into 2022 is shaping up like no other in memory.  Rising energy costs, supplier failures, storms, more time at home, rising prices and income reductions for many. Inevitably it will take its toll.

EAS wants to help some of those in greatest need.  People in extreme fuel poverty, at risk of self-disconnection, unable to afford their energy costs, whose health and wellbeing could suffer.

Basic warmth items such as duvets, blankets, flasks, and hot water bottles will make a difference.

EAS have asked us to support their winter campaign ‘Essential Warmth’ and we are promoting it on our social media channels throughout the winter. It’s a tough time for everyone.

EAS have managed to establish a trade account with a supplier of duvets and duvet covers which is providing them with access to goods at a considerably lower cost than RRP and they have the opportunity of securing a further discount for an initial bulk order.

It’s thought that a good quality pack for a family of 4 including a double 13.5/15 tog duvet, two single 13.5 tog duvets and covers will cost approximately £60. Everything would be machine washable and would last for several years, providing ongoing warmth and comfort.

To ensure that packs reach those that need it most they will be distributed by housing associations and other members to individuals and families identified by EAS.

Last year the EAS winter campaign grew from modest beginnings to help over 500 families and was recognised for its community engagement and benefit in the prestigious international Energy Institute Awards.

The need to help people this winter is even greater.
