Aberdeenshire business wins Branch of the Year Competition
William Wilson employees at two Aberdeenshire branches have scooped two of four prestigious Branch of the Year awards in a competition run by parent company and major UK construction industry supplier Wolseley.
The Aberdeen and Inverurie branches beat off competition from nine other Wolseley businesses to scoop the awards in the large and medium branch categories.
The branch managers were presented with their awards by Ian Meakins, CEO Wolseley, at an awards ceremony held at the Ricoh Arena in Coventry.
Winners of the Branch of the Year competition were selected by a judging panel of Wolseley UK’s Leadership Team, who used standard judging criteria to determine the best of the best.
William Wilson has a long and proud history in Scotland, starting in Aberdeen 110 years ago and these awards demonstrate a continuing passion for customer service and excellence.
Aberdeen branch manager Ronnie Hill said “To be nominated for Branch of the Year was superb for everyone in the branch, however to win it was just brilliant! Our showroom was the only William Wilson showroom not to see a drop in sales during the last financial year - a tribute to its reputation and customer service. It goes to show what great team spirit we have at William Wilson. Our Branch of the Year trophy will take pride of place in our new office."
Inverurie branch manager Bob Mair said “To be nominated for the award three times in a row is pretty satisfying but to actually win is like getting the six numbers on a Saturday night! It is great recognition of the loyalty shown by both staff and customers that we were able to win this prestigious award.”
Sales and operations director Robin Mackinlay said “To have branches win two out of the four available awards at the recent Wolseley UK Branch of the Year awards is a fantastic achievement. The two branches may differ in terms of size, but both have a common desire to deliver consistently high quality service to all their customers. Although this focus is consistent throughout all the branches within William Wilson, it is great to see the hard work and commitment of these two branches has been recognised and rewarded by the senior management team within Wolseley UK.

The WoW! Factor – Celebrating the winners of Wolseley
The second quarterly winners of the 2009/10 WoW! Factor Customer Service Champion competition can now be revealed!
Gordon Colquhoun of Cumbernauld is a service champion!
During a freezing winters night, Gordon received a call late on Friday from long term customer Scottish Gas. An 86 year old lady was without central heating and urgently needed delivery of a replacement boiler.
Aware the lady could potentially be without heat until Monday, Gordon set off from Cumbernauld at 5pm to make the 45 mile journey to deliver the much needed boiler.
Gordon was not asked by a manager to provide this support, but did so out of genuine concern for the pensioners’ wellbeing. Gordon also demonstrated to Scottish Gas the lengths William Wilson will go to in order to provide best in class customer service.
Well done Gordon!
The standard of nominations in the second quarter was again very high and some 120 colleague nominations were received from across the Wolseley business.
All the nominations were carefully reviewed and assessed using the same specific judging criteria. From the 120 employees nominated, the top 20 were judged by a panel of the Senior Management Team (SMT). The judging panel selected the winners, who each receive a £250 cash prize.
